As a forum for the presentation of the latest tendencies in contemporary dance in Germany, DANCE PLATFORM GERMANY ranks among the most important dance events in Europe. The DPG began in 1994 as a pre-selection for the renowned choreographer’s competition “Les Rencontres chorégraphiques internationales de Seine-Saint-Denis.”
Since then, the DPG has evolved into a forum providing insights into trends and tendencies on the dance scene in Germany. The DPG is designed to meet the needs of guests from Germany and abroad, including organizers of cultural events, journalists from the specialized press and general audiences with an interest in dance, to whom it offers a broad spectrum of dance productions within a short timeframe of a just few days’ duration. This makes the DPG a place for sharing, networking and lively exchange of contacts among artists, organizers, makers of culture and other people who are enthusiastic about dance.
The DPG is presented at two-year intervals, in a different German city each time. Dance Platform Germany’s previous venues were Berlin (1994), Frankfurt/Main (1996), Munich (1998), Hamburg (2000), Leipzig (2002), Düsseldorf (2004), Stuttgart (2006) and Hanover (2008).
The next DANCE PLATFORM GERMANY will take place in Nuremberg in February 2010.
Dance Platform Germany’s co-organizers are:
Hebbel am Ufer/Berlin, TanzWerkstatt Berlin, Künstlerhaus Mousonturm/Frankfurt a.M., JOINT ADVENTURES/Munich, Kampnagel/Hamburg, euro-scene/Leipzig, tanzhaus nrw/Düsseldorf, Theaterhaus/Stuttgart, and Tanz und Theater e.V./Hanover. Dance Platform Germany’s partners are ITI Deutschland and the Goethe Institute.
