Descriptions of survival in the Siberian Arctic and reports on the last days of Scott's journeys to the Antarctic inspired Rosemary Butcher to her piece "WHITE". At the heart of "WHITE" are visualisations reflecting the physical and emotional constraints of a (Polar) explorer. The pictures evoke the nothingness, the distance, transparency, appearance and disappearance.
In "WHITE" Butcher also breaks new ground in terms of choreography. In the piece three dancers (Anna Holter, Anise Smith, Elena Giannotti) interact with a video projection by the German film-maker Martin Otter and a soundscape score by the British composer Cathy Lane created especially for "WHITE".
"WHITE" was realised within the continuation of the joint project "Choreographer-in-Residence", a successful cooperation arrangement between JOINT ADVENTURES – Walter Heun and the Department of Culture of the State Capital Munich – Performing Arts Section.
