Mozart died in the year 1791 while working on his last piece, the Requiem. It is perhaps his most human work. It is a kaleidoscope of emotions: simultaneously hopeless and hopeful. Fourteen artists from Africa and Europe joined together for this piece of western music history; they developed a reconstruction with influences from jazz, opera and popular African music. Alain Platel, prizewinning choreographer and director from Belgium, translates the musical images and associations in a unique body language. The Belgian composer Fabrizio Cassol, co-founder of the fusion band Aka Moon and musical director of this project, searched for ways to write a new history with this already existing work. In the cooperation between various musical cultures, the music and its western roots can be experienced anew.
World premiere is on January 18, 2018 at the Berliner Festspiele.
