"We had an intuitive, intense communication, often without words. We had a common voice that was heard elsewhere. His disappearance was a shock to me. A hole in my body."

For many years, Cindy van Acker has been one of Switzerland's outstanding choreographers, internationally successful with her Cie Greffe, in the independent dance scene, but also at established theaters. In her works she explores with almost scientific meticulousness questions of physicality as well as the relationship of body, mind, sound, space and light, which merge in a subtle handwriting. Between movements and non-movements set in a minimalistic manner, visually powerful productions unfold, shaking physical narratives and undermining, eroding and inverting our conventional patterns of perception.

"Sunfish" is a tribute to Finnish electronic music pioneer Mika Vainio (1963 – 2017), whose work is closely linked to Cindy Van Acker's artistic thinking about dance. The immersive evening brings together several pieces and excerpts from pieces created to Vainio's music, including "Diffraction" (2011), "Knusa" (2016), "Speechless Voices" (2018), "Shadowpieces VIII - Hello Sound" (2020), and a revisit to "Obtus" (2009).

Cindy van Acker received two Swiss Dance Prizes, the Medal of a Knight of the Legion of Honor, the Cultural Prize of the Leenaards Foundation and was awarded the Swiss Grand Award for the Performing Arts in 2023.
