“We believe each human is a cosmic dancer, with a unique gift: the body. Here lies a portal patiently waiting to reveal the depth of our human potential. Regardless of age, background, or ability, we all possess the artistry to access the transformative power of movement.” Julia Robert & Rudi Cole, HUMANHOOD founders
This workshop allows participants to immerse themselves in the movement practice and philosophy of HUMANHOOD founders Julia Robert and Rudi Cole. It will be led by Mauricio Zúñiga, who has been working closely with the ensemble since 2024. The focus is on the principle of receiving rather than doing movement and embodying the soft fluidity and complex rhythmicality that are characteristic of the HUMANHOOD style. Particular attention is paid to the articulation of the spine, contact with the earth and the conscious muscle relaxation while keeping clarity in the body and strength in the movement.
In the workshop, participants learn selected choreographic phrases from the latest production “Vortex”, gaining a deeper understanding of the intention behind the repertoire and its performance.
The workshop levels differ in the complexity of the choreographic material. While participants in the beginner workshop work primarily on deepening their sensation of movement, the advanced workshop focuses more on how to become a powerful performer.
Through the study of ancient spiritual traditions, the examination of human nature and its potential, rigorous training and continuous self-reflection, Julia Robert and Rudi Cole have developed a unique, symbiotic and fluid movement practice that is designed for all humans. Since 2016, they have created five dance productions that have been performed on five continents at renowned festivals such as the Venice Biennale in Italy, the Festival Grec in Barcelona, Sadler’s Wells in London, SIDance in Seoul, CINARS in Canada and the Loja International Festival in Ecuador. Their first dance film “INFINITY” was commissioned by the BBC and broadcast in the UK.
Mauricio Zúñiga, born in Chile, completed his dance training at the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona and with the Compagnie Junior de Genève. He joined HUMANHOOD in 2024, where he was involved in the creation and tour of “Vortex” and the new production of “∞ {Infinite}”.
