On the stage are 100s of scarves: Juventus Turin, Kirmes Pirmasens, High as fuck, Sauerland Powerland, Iran, All Blacks. The important, the famous, the ridiculous, and the provincial, slogans and club logos are depicted side by side.
Moritz Ostruschnjak, one of the most internationally sought-after German choreographers, traces the connections between fanaticism and forms of political protest - and uses the logic of social media in his unmistakable style. On the surface, soccer is everywhere. Stadium chants ring out, video images of matches, FIFA meetings and deserted stadiums flicker across the screen, the eight dancers in jeans and Fred Perry shirts could just as easily be standing in the stands. Underneath, fan culture blurs into political space, while urban style meets abstract movement, and silence alternates with visual and acoustic overkill.

Swifties and soccer ultras, politics and protest, overturned police cars, flares and fluffy mascots collide just as much as Arabic chants, English stadium anthems, the Mickey Mouse Club and Beethoven. “NON + ULTRAS” uses dance, video and music to create a swirl of layered meanings that seem to reach out randomly and erratically to all corners and ends, casting a spotlight on a society that surrenders to the power of images, pays homage to stars and populists alike, and is irreconcilably polarized.

Coming from the graffiti scene, Moritz Ostruschnjak developed his interest in contemporary dance through breakdancing. He studied at Iwanson International in Munich from 2001-03 and completed his training with Maurice Béjart in Lausanne. He has been working as a freelance choreographer in Munich since 2013 and has carried out ten productions. Most recently, he created “CRY WHY”, a piece for 2 dancers, 2 pianos, inline skates and 1 pianist (September 2024) and “NON + ULTRAS” (January 2025). His pieces have been shown at numerous European festivals and have been selected three times for the TANZPLATTFORM DEUTSCHLAND. In addition to his own productions, he also creates commissioned works, including “TRAILER PARK” for the ensemble tanzmainz in 2023. Moritz Ostruschnjak is one of the Aerowaves Twenty21 Artists, was awarded the Dance Prize of the City of Munich in 2020 and is a member of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts and Tanztendenz München e.V.
