In “Contemporary Dance: Some Basics”, dancer Sahra Huby invites course participants to familiarize themselves with what she calls “some basics”. Contemporary dance is a very broad, diverse and personal field, a mixture of different techniques and approaches. But can we define some basics?

“It is not about the form. We play with rules, principles and scores that get us moving. The body is our friend, as is the floor. We relate to other bodies, to the space, to sound and music ... After the warm-up, we will focus on different zones each day and approach them with the help of specific exercises and tasks.  Each of the zones will provide different tools and open up different possibilities for playful interaction and movement.”

Sahra Huby has been working as a contemporary dancer for 20 years and gained experience with choreographers all over Europe. Her artistic path is closely linked to that of Munich-based choreographer Anna Konjetzky. Together they have created several dance productions and run the PLAYGROUND studio with two other dance artists.

In her artistic work, Sahra deals with the question of the representation and perception of the human body, using not only the medium of dance, but also drawings and mapping. Her research has resulted in the interactive website THE ATLAS PROJECT (www.theatlasproject.de) and the piece “Hey Körper?!”, among others. For her artistic excellence and her significant influence on the Munich dance scene, she received the Förderpreis Tanz of the City of Munich in 2024.
