“Terms & Conditions” is a solo piece that juggles with language – between literal and metaphorical meanings, associative chains of thought, rhymes, puns, and misunderstandings. Where does the meaning lie? And who reveals it?

Etymology is the branch of linguistics that deals with the origin of words. It examines the connections between terms and meanings – and how these change over time depending on context and usage.

“You could say that etymology is a kind of map: a map of how language moves choreographically. A word alone doesn't say much. Only when it is used does it acquire its meaning,” says Ingrid Berger Myhre, one of Norway’s most important and perhaps most humorous choreographers today. She researches literacy in dance and has devoted several projects to the diverse interrelationships between dance and language. “Spelling Spectacle” was shown as a guest performance at TANZWERKSTATT EUROPA in 2024.

Her current work in progress, “Terms & Conditions,” is a witty exploration of the silent contract between language and movement. How do we use the body as a mediator of language? When do we express language through gestures, shift its meaning, or even contradict it? And how do we deal with different interpretations of words?

The showing takes place as part of an artist residency in cooperation with Hoch X Theater and Live Art. On April 23 at 4 p.m., SK³ – Ständige Konferenz für Kunst und Kultur in Bayern (Permanent Conference for Art and Culture in Bavaria) invites you to a political impulse forum on the “Terms & Conditions” of cultural funding between the federal government, states, and municipalities.
