Ian Kaler is a choreographer, performer and filmmaker based in Vienna and Berlin. In ‘RAW PRACTICE: SYNAESTHETIX’, he explores the connections between movement, video design, light and electronic music together with video artist Dafne Narvaez Berlfein and musician rRoxymore. A live camera transmits silhouetted images of the choreography, creating an independent narrative that expands reality and allows new relationships between body, image and space to emerge. In this immersive, choreo-cinematographic setting, the outstanding sensitivity of Ian Kaler's work becomes tangible once again, as does his ability to create subtle resonances and make them recognisable to the audience.
Ian Kaler studied Transmedial Art at the University of Applied Arts Vienna and completed the pilot course BA Contemporary Dance, Context, Choreography at the Inter-University Center for Dance (HZT) at the Berlin University of the Arts. He holds a Master's degree in Filmmaking (Directing Fiction) from Goldsmiths, University of London. The core themes of his work include embodiment and coming of age viewed through a transmasculine lens, the figurative composition of the still and moving body, the relationship between bodies and the spaces they inhabit, horses, other sentient beings and encounters with them.
Dafne Narvaez Berlfein is a Berlin-based video artist, researcher, cultural producer and art educator. She studied Audiovisual Design at the University of Buenos Aires and completed her master's degree at the Institute for Art in Context at the Berlin University of the Arts. Her artistic and academic practice is based on interdisciplinary, collaborative processes with an intersectional perspective. All the projects she is involved in share the goal of decentralising socio-cultural structures.
Hermione Frank, alias rRoxymore, is a French musician, producer and DJ. She creates abstract, exploratory dance music, that is produced live with a laptop and analogue equipment, incorporating complex polyrhythms and combining electronic and organic sounds. Her work is conceptually bold, flexible and does not shy away from contradictions. Frank regularly collaborates with artists from various genres. After stints in Montpellier, Paris and Berlin, she recently returned to her hometown to record her latest album, “Juggling Dualities” (2025).
